Chatham County, ca. 1900. Plantation home of Henry McAlpin, known as The Hermitage, was located about three miles north of Savannah. It may have been designed by Charles B. Cluskey of Savannah and is in Greek Revival style. McAlpin operated a brick kiln at The Hermitage and produced bricks known as Savannah Greys. The Hermitage has been demolished and today Union Camp Paper Corp. occupies the site.
