About this collection

As part of its mission to create jobs, and therefore economic well-being, through the promotion of Georgia as a business location or a tourist destination, the Georgia Department of Economic Development (formerly the Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism) has produced many high quality photographs and slides for use in publications, brochures, and multimedia presentations. Approximately 50,000 of these slides were transferred to the Georgia Archives for permanent preservation in 2005. The images in this online collection are a representative sample of the slides now in the archives.

The images have been arranged in a self-indexing fashion, just as they were arranged by the Department of Economic Development. They are grouped by geographic area and then by location, such as city, county, state park, or historic site.

Usage Note: Users may download the images for personal or educational use - students may include images in reports, for instance, and teachers may use the images in the classroom - if the following credit line is included with the image: Courtesy of the Georgia Archives. Each image has a "Cite as" field in the Document Description. Users can form a complete citation by combining the "Location", "Image number", and "Cite as" fields for the individual image.

Ordering: To order reproductions and apply for permission to publish, please contact Reference Services. Refer to a photograph by the collection name, identifier, and location. (e.g. "Touring Georgia Collection, D018, Image 5").
